Internal Family Systems and Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy: A Synergy for Deeper Transformation

2nd Multidisciplinary Conference: Science of Psychedelics in Practice

05.04.2025. @ WESPA

According to the latest research from the University of Michigan, the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model is the second most popular therapeutic approach used in the context of psychedelic-assisted therapy, right after Somatic Experiencing. Michael Mithoefer, one of the leading researchers at MAPS, an organization specializing in MDMA research for therapeutic purposes, highlights the exceptional compatibility of IFS with MDMA therapy. According to his findings, data shows that around 70% of study participants spontaneously experience internal processes resembling guided IFS therapy sessions.

This presentation will introduce IFS as a framework that not only enhances the understanding of experiences during psychedelic sessions but also serves as a tool for significantly improving the therapeutic process. Special emphasis will be placed on the practical application of IFS in all three key phases of psychedelic-assisted therapy: preparation, dosing, and integration of experiences.

The presentation will provide insight into the potential of the IFS model as a powerful tool for empowering both therapists and clients, facilitating deeper transformation and healing in synergy with psychedelic-assisted therapy.
